Old Kindle E-Reader

My Kobo got a cracked screen after I tossed it around too much (I'm not proud) and I got a Kindle Keyboard 3rd generation. It's actually older than my old Kindle that I had before the Kobo. Yes, this is ridiculous, but here are the perks: It doesn't have a touch screen, meaning that I don't lose my place because I bumped it with my hand, I don't have to be careful to only touch it round the…

Apple iPod Classic

I appreciate the simplicity of the classic iPod. It holds 256GB of music, and it does a great job. I have a little speaker with a cable to plug it into. The only down side, is I have had trouble transferring music from Linux, so I had to resuscitate my old dormant Macbook Air to manage my music. I will have to see if there is a Linux friendly MP3 player out there, when this system eventually…

Casio W217H Watch

I love this watch. I got it new for $17. It is sturdy, and it tells time, has the date and day of the week, and that's about it. I like the amber colored back light. The strap was breaking so I replaced with an olive green nylon strap, which I like better than the original. It is described as a mens watch, but I think it's fine on my non-man wrist, and I say no rules anyway.

Alphasmart Neo

This thing is so great! I use it for journaling when I want to have a good keyboard, and a distraction free brain dump. Then I plug it into my laptop with the printer cable and it shuttles the text directly into my text editor of choice (Usually Zim Wiki for me).

Fountain Pen Inks

Inks also vary more than you would expect! I don't have a vast collection of inks, because I want a very specific thing: water proof (or at least water resistant, so a drop of tea won't wipe out what I've written), and I like dark green and black colors. My general go-tos are:

Noodlers Heart of Darkness (black)

I feel this is the most reliable ink. If a pen is being a bit hard to start, I use…

Notebooks and Paper

Apica Premium CD notebook

Lovely! One of my go-to journaling notebooks.

Kokuyo paper in general

Great because they are affordable, but the paper is lovely for fountain pens.

Why I stopped Posting on Social Media (even Mastodon)

I have never been a huge social media person, but my usage has dwindled over recent years. For a long time I stopped posting on other more evil socials but still used Mastodon because it seemed more positive than the alternatives.

But I even stopped posting on Mastodon, because I have been reevaluating the way I spend my time and attention. Trying to bring my mental focus back to my real life.

Computer Sanity Part 2 - Instagram

I admit that I fell prey to the Instagram scam a for a few years. I say a scam, because the idea is out there that Instagram is a good way to promote art or a business, and I don't think it is, not for a small artist anyway. For ten years I did art shows and markets, had an online shop and had social media accounts for my artwork. Social media got me only a handful of sales in a decade. Art shows…
